Campaign Notes: Curse of Strahd

Blimir

BACKSTORY:

  • Blimir sees a local respected, warm & friendly individual who he knew through occasional routine interactions (e.g. a shopkeep), who owns some business (or perhaps serves in some public role) brought to ruin by slander and lies of another. The people turn against them, and they have no recourse.

highlights:

  • the power of the Word [to change hearts and minds]
  • the potential for the Word to be used for good or evil
  • the importance of the revelation of Truth

Should I make Blimir have proved backstory person's innocence? or should he have another breakout / deciding moment? -- Perhaps that breakout moment or "example" can be set by this church he will find…

Should this character be OK with secrets? Or is an omission a lie? -- I feel there are more interesting angels (revelation of the truth) if they keep their own secrets.

FEARS:

  • the fear of being alone / abandoned
  • the fear of being "found out" --- of being perceived as a fake, a liar (in general)

BONDS:

  • tell no lie. "let your yes mean yes and let your no mean no. anything else is that of the evil one"
    • Now, there are caveats to this. I do not think, for example, this person is so unwaveringly principled on this matter that they would avoid a lie if that lie would save an innocent life.
      • perhaps the Domain would disagree, interesting point-of-conflict option
  • Bear witness to the Truth. -- If one would spread distrust and lies, be the beacon of light that banishes the shadows of deceit.

There's an interesting invasion-of-privacy horror angle here for the 'church'. -- compelled forthcoming-ness w/ the truth and all that

Drimmik was a small mining torn near the east mountains of _. Mayor of this down, Thonbjorn was a kindhearted man in his late fifties. A soft-spoken, but knowledgeable individual Thonbjorn relied on his trusted councilors to handle their respective sections of government. Stilla, an erudite scholar of material sciences dutifully organized the town's mining operations, handling logistics, and divvying up work among the townsfolk, as well as coordinating new research expeditions to find new veins before the current one dried up. Additionally, she has a soft spot for animals, and takes care of a small number of exotic creatures. [… todo: fill in other 2 if keeping this story].
